4)District Cub Events

4.1District Quiz
Richard informed the meeting that Gillingham Kim had won the District Quiz for the second year in succession, with Winterbourne Whitchurch as runners up.
We will need to find a new question master for 2010; Lesley may know somebody, but Richard asked all leaders to try and  identify an individual who would be willing to do this.
Richard then informed the meeting that he would like to change the format for next year, and have the first inter pack round as is now, but then omit the second round heat, and have a representative from each pack in the final, thus making the final more of a district event rather than just between the three finalists, Ange commented that we may have to find a larger venue, but those leaders present agreed it was a good idea, and that we should implement this in 2010.

4.2Challenge Shield
Richard asked the meeting if they would like the swimming gala to be an annual or bi annual event, all leaders present felt that they would like the swimming gala to alternate with the Crystal maze competition, it was also suggested moving the swimming gala to later in the year when our activity diary is not as full, and to include some fun races for Cubs who were not strong swimmers.
Congratulations to Portman on winning the Shield this year, and many thanks to John for organising this event.

4.3District Hike 2009
Approx 120 people joined us on this district event, and we enjoyed perfect weather, many thanks to Lesley for organising this district event. Winterbourne Whitchurch has offered to host next years hike, Alan to arrange a Sunday in February 2010 and report back.

4.9Sixer and Seconder camp
This event will take place between 26th > 28th June 2009, John informed the meeting that he had a venue in mind that was within the Dorset border, it was suggested that Scouts were invited in order to strengthen the links between the pack and troup. More details to follow shortly.
ACTION JK
4.10Cub Carol Service --- Sunday 6th December 2009 (provisional date)
Richard informed the meeting that he was very keen to reinstate the Cub Carol service, all present agreed that this was a good idea, and that he would like each pack to take an active part in the service, and also to include a performance of Silent Night in Sign as performed by Portman last year.
Richard then asked the meeting if any pack would like to host this event, Stalbridge and Winterbourne Whitchurch both voiced an interest, both Packs to investigate and report back.
ACTION AB/AW
5)County/ H.Q.

5.1County Scrapheap Challenge
Sturminster Newton very kindly represented us at short notice at this event, many thanks to Tina.

5.2County Football Tournament.
Richard informed the meeting that this event would take place on Saturday 4th July, with two teams from each district of mixed ages. Each match will last for 4 minutes each way.
Those present felt it was a long way to ask parents and leaders to travel for a minimum of  8 minutes playing time, so it was decided to offer the winners and runners up of our District Football tournament the opportunity of representing us at this County event.

5.3Independence Day
As our activity diary is fairly full, those present felt unable to provide a base for this event.

5.4Goose 2010
Richard informed the meeting that Cub Scouts will be able to camp from the 3rd to the 7th August 2010 at a cost of £130. Most leaders present felt that this figure was too high, and could result in excluding some Cubs from attending, especially in the current economic climate, and that  Scouting should be accessible to all. Registration will commence from September this year

5.5Questionnaire 2008
Richard handed round the results of the questionnaire.
